Boston Children's Hospital
Children’s Hospital Boston is one of the foremost pediatric hospitals in the world. It is also affiliated with Harvard Medical School. A four week rotation in the infectious disease diagnostics laboratory at Children’s Hospital will round out the fellows' training by exposure to pediatric infectious disease diagnostics and clinical issues. Children’s Hospital is a also major referral center for Cystic Fibrosis and uses special techniques to identify Burkholderia and other pathogens infecting this population. It also maintains a very active virology laboratory related to the importance of viral infections in their patient population. During their Children’s hospital rotation, the fellows will learn about the clinical bacteriology of cystic fibrosis, advanced virological culture and molecular techniques, and certain bacterial organisms that are more prevalent or relatively unique to pediatric patients. The rotation is typically scheduled in the winter months when the virology laboratory is most active.
